Land Acknowledgement
At Oak's Loft Care, our mission is rooted in providing inclusive, compassionate, and holistic care. We recognise that true care and wellness cannot exist without acknowledging the history of the land on which we operate. We provide in-person care on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Attawandaron peoples. This land is connected to the London Township Treaty of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum, representing an historic commitment to peaceably share and care for the resources of this region. We also recognise our three neighbouring First Nations communities: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee-Delaware Nation. We acknowledge the enduring presence, deep traditional knowledge, and resilience of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples living in our community. London is home to a vibrant, growing urban Indigenous population.
Why this matters to our care: As an organisation dedicated to healthcare and caregiving, and working directly with people in our local community, we recognise that historical and ongoing colonisation has created deep, systemic disparities in health, well-being, and institutional access for Indigenous communities. We believe that true care means actively working to dismantle these barriers, and acknowledging the land is a vital first step. We are committed to fostering culturally-safe care spaces, continuous internal learning, and supporting Indigenous health equity across the region.
